WHITE PAPER: Sustainability of the Home LAN
An operator-led ecosystem approach to understanding and managing the environmental impact of the home LAN
PARIS, France – 12 June 2023
This white paper uses the French market as an example with use cases from Orange France. A home LAN is a network of devices within a single home. Its environmental impact is measured by its energy consumption and the CO2e emissions of home devices.
This paper looks first at how much energy is consumed at home. It then looks into lowering this consumption and highlights the low-hanging fruit of idle time. It emphasises the importance of user education towards digital sobriety and examines how a more capable home network can benefit the planet. The paper closes with a look into the operator’s role, concluding that a holistic and collaborative approach towards sustainability in the home LAN is a necessary and exciting journey.
Orange France, Broadpeak, Sagemcom, and SoftAtHome sponsored this white paper.
