SoftAtHome wins a Videonet ConnectedTV Award 2014 for its Universal Video Player for Connected Devices

ConnectedTV World Summit 2014, London, United Kingdom – June 12, 2014 –SoftAtHome, a provider of home operating platforms enabling convergent services for the digital home, is proud to have been chosen by a jury of independent industry experts for this year’s Videonet ConnectedTV commended Award in the Connected Technology Hero category. This prestigious award acknowledges SoftAtHome’s Universal Video Player for Connected Devices as a major breakthrough in client software solutions.

Michel Degland, SoftAtHome’s CEO, said: “SoftAtHome is honored to win this prestigious award and gain recognition for its innovations in the video-streaming technologies area. This technology aims to develop an intuitive TV experience for end-users, who are able to seamlessly move from DVB broadcast streams to IP delivered ones.”

SoftAtHome’s Universal Video Player is the first carrier-grade media player software that supports all current video-streaming technologies across all networks on operator devices in the home. The solution seamlessly switches from broadcast to multicast video streams in existing IPTV deployments on MPEG4 transport streams and to other newer unicast IP delivered technologies, including Microsoft Smooth Streaming, Apple HLS or the latest MPEG-DASH standard. The solution enables any Set Top Box to be compatible with all streaming technologies. Iis future proofed the expected rise of the new HEVC compression standard. This solution has also won a 2013 CSI Award for Best IPTV Technology.

The Connected Technology Hero award rewards solutions that are solving big problems or opening a door to major opportunities presented in the connected TV era. This year again, the Videonet Connected TV Awards are highly competitive with 85 entries in six categories. They have been designed to reward technical and innovative product technologies in the Connected TV industry. The jury is composed of independent experts who have full control of the process from start to finish. This year’s Videonet ConnectedTV Awards winners were announced during ConnectedTV World Summit at the Royal College of Physicians in London, on June 11, 2014.
