SoftAtHome Partners with Anevia to Deliver Innovative Video Services to Telecom Operators. Integration of SoftAtHome STB Platform and Anevia VOD provides best of breed foundation for IPTV services
PARIS, Thursday, 4 June 2009 – SoftAtHome, a company created by Orange to help service providers deliver convergent applications for the Digital Home, announced today a partnership with Anevia, a leading supplier of IPTV and Video on Demand (VoD) solutions. Under the partnership the two companies have integrated SoftAtHome Operating Platform running on Set Top Boxes (STB) with Anevia’s Video on Demand (VoD) back-end servers to provide telecommunication companies and service providers with the key components to deploy new video services.
SoftAtHome Operating Platform is a software platform that contains all the features and APIs necessary to create applications for the Digital Home. Operators can combine services such as voice, video, user interface, security, network access, connectivity or management, and deploy them across different devices in the home including STBs and Home Gateways (HGW). Anevia’ s solution is a complete network software infrastructure for delivery of VoD and IPTV services. It includes solutions ranging from head ends to video servers and asset management. The combined solution enables operators and 3rd party developers to create dynamic applications that combine video content coming from the network with interactive applications running on their STB. Applications include VoD, Network PVR, Time Shifting and Catch Up TV which deliver a new and more interactive TV experience. Service providers can also benefit from the openness and portability of the SoftAtHome Operating Platform while leveraging their investment in Anevia’s VoD servers.
SoftAtHome’s CEO, François Josserand, says: “Anevia is a recognized player in the VoD market with thousands of deployments across the world. Our interoperability with Anevia adds a significant brick to our ecosystem to provide our customers with a best of breed solution.
Now developers can easily create new interactive applications on TV in Flash/ActionScript or HTML/JavaScript to transparently access Anevia’s features. The integration of the two solutions is done through the use of the industry standard RTSP protocol. It gives developers a homogeneous set of APIs across all the services required to build an application and insulates them from any future upgrade of their VoD server.
“We are very pleased to be working with SoftAtHome in such a constructive partnership. The combination of Anevia’s focus on network features and SoftAtHome’s delivery of value added services inside the home enables us to deliver the next generation TV experience”, adds Tristan Leteurtre, President and Co-founder of Anevia.
The combined solution enables operators to deliver on the promises of the Digital Home. Not only can consumers communicate or watch TV but they can also benefit from higher value added services with the advent of the Digital Home. This includes accessing content from the mobile, PC or the TV regardless of origin; playing content stored in the home from any TV in the world; recording TV on a PVR when travelling; navigating through recommended programs based on a personal TV profile; managing home settings and accessing content from favorite web sites – all through the ease of use of the TV.
