SoftAtHome Joins the Wi-Fi Alliance®

Service Providers and Integrators offer Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™solutions on SoftAtHome Operating Platform.

PARIS, Monday, 29 September 2008 – SoftAtHome, a company created by Orange, Thomson and Sagem Communications to help service providers deliver convergent applications for the Digital Home, today announced its membership of the Wi-Fi Alliance. SoftAtHome joins a group of companies that drive the adoption of the Wi-Fi Technology. It reinforces SoftAtHome’s support of industry standards and certification programs necessary for the development of the Digital Home.

The Wi-Fi Alliance develops testing and certification programs to help ensure the best user experience with Wi-Fi technology. The organization’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED programs, which have been a driving force in the growth of the worldwide Wi-Fi market, address interoperability across manufacturers’ products and help ensure strong security.

The SoftAtHome Operating Platform, which enables service providers to deliver innovative and convergent applications for the Digital Home on different devices including Set Top Boxes and Home Gateways, fully integrates the use of Wi-Fi technology as part of its software stack.

It offers a wide variety of possibilities such as: multiple LAN support via multiple SSID, VoIP SLA guaranteed thanks to WMM® certification, shared access with Community Wi-Fi or Hotspot functions or dynamic bandwidth allocation. Furthermore, SoftAtHome has developed some applications to enable Power Consumption management from TV or on/off scheduling through an intuitive user interface.

“Wi-Fi technology is fundamental to the development of the Digital Home. As we offer a ubiquitous platform that enables innovative services, it is key for us to not only provide full support for Wi-Fi, but to help consumers optimize the use of Wi-Fi and get the most out of it. As such we are pleased to be part of the Wi-Fi Alliance and contribute to the worldwide success of Wi-Fi,” said Wojtek Makowski, SoftAtHome Vice President of Technology. “Wi-Fi Alliance member companies such as SoftAtHome drive industry-wide solutions to help ensure the best user experience with Wi-Fi products, and we are pleased to have them join the organization,” said Wi-Fi Alliance executive director Edgar Figueroa. “With their support for WMM Quality of Service, SoftAtHome joins a broad group of industry leaders who are enabling Wi-Fi’s growth into consumer electronics and the digital home.”

This membership amplifies SoftAtHome’s recognition and adoption of established standards bodies such as the UPnP Forum, DLNA Forum, Broadband Forum and HGI.
